René Holm

René Holm, born in 1967 in Esbjerg, is a recognized Danish artist with a strong connection to Esbjerg and Berlin. He graduated from Aarhus Art Academy, where he studied from 2001 to 2006. Holm is known for his work in painting, sculpture and graphics and has exhibited worldwide.

His artistic focus is on depictions of people and environments that differ from societal norms. He has created thematic series that delve into the fates of those living in small communities that are different from the mainstream. His art seems to express a deep social indignation that is channeled through his detailed brushstrokes. In 2017, Holm realized his dream of establishing a permanent base in Berlin, where he now lives and works much of the time.

Original lithographs for sale by René Holm

A lithograph – also called lithography – is a technique that is almost 250 years old. In short, it is a limestone that serves as the artist’s canvas. René Holm draws the motif directly on the stone with a greasy pencil – one color at a time. Then the edition is printed with the desired color. The stone is then sanded, and is now ready for the artist to draw the next color. It’s a slow process and it’s not uncommon for there to be 5 and 10 layers of color in René Holm’s lithographs.
