Meadow

Jaakko Mattila is an internationally recognized artist whose experimental approach allows him to create works that inspire, fascinate and challenge our view of the world. He has exhibited globally – from Japan to the UK, Italy and France – and his artistic practice encompasses painting, printmaking, sculpture and collaborative community art projects.

Mattila often works with repetitive shapes such as spheres, cubes and spirals that mirror the structures of nature – from the microscopic to the cosmic. Inspiration is often found in the elements that we know exist but may not fully understand. His works are characterized by layers upon layers of colors and materials that create depth and complexity. From pointillist-inspired paintings with up to 150 layers of color to his collaboration with Noma Projects, where time and impermanence take center stage, his art reflects a constant exploration of the sensual and the incomprehensible.

The title MEADOW captures the essence of his artistic universe, where the structures and rhythms of nature are at the center. MEADOW is a poetic metaphor for Mattila’s artistic approach. Just as a meadow consists of countless elements – blades of grass, flowers and light – that together create a harmonious whole, Mattila builds his works with repetitive structures and color fields that invite contemplation of nature’s order and chaos.

This exhibition at Atelier Clot, Bramsen & Brunholt features a collection of Jaakko Mattila’s watercolors, etchings and lithographs. It is an opportunity to experience his fascinating universe in both small and large formats.
