Asger Jorn
Asger Oluf Jørgensen with the stage name Asger Jorn – born 1914, died May 1973 – was a Danish visual artist of international fame and graphic artist, ceramicist, author, etc. Asger Jorn was the brother of the artists Jørgen Nash and Vagn Ove Jorn. The largest collection of Asger Jorn’s works – including the his main work Stalingrad – can be seen in Museum Jorn, Silkeborg. Jorn lived as a young man in Silkeborg and also later had strong ties to the city. He was a seminary graduate in Silkeborg, where he started his artistic career. In 1946, Jorgensen took the stage name Jorn. Jorn spent a lot of time abroad, including in The Netherlands. in Paris, France, and Albissola Marina in Italy. In the 1940s he reached the very personal imagery that became characteristic of him. He was a member of the artists group Helhesten, COBRA, which he co-founded in 1948 and the Situationist Internationale.
